FigureDrawing

Guided life drawing of both clothed and unclothed figure. Bring medium, paper, and $15. Instructor: Mishka Navarre, MFA.

Our classes and workshops are aimed at raising the technique of designers, dressers, and performers of all skill levels and are not limited to professionals. Class rules and regulations can be found in our policies section. Schedules can be found in the calendar section.

Classes and workshops include:

­Period Dressing Techniques

Learn how to get dressed and move in period splendor!

In this movement workshop, learn how corsets and stays, shapewear, camisoles, slips, heels, hats, hoops, suspenders and capes function and add style and character.

$55 includes instructor costs. Materials: Students may bring their own garments, but they are not required. We will provide everything you need for this workshop. Maximum six students. Instructors: Mishka Navarre, Ricky German
Mending Pile Monday

Come use our machinery, shop space, and know-how to repair that zipper, put in that hem, adjust that fit and learn new skills to help keep that pile from reappearing.

Got a pile of clothes that need a tweak here, a hem there? A hole? A broken zipper? Do you hate to get rid of it but don’t know what to do with it?

$20 includes instruction, shop and thread fee. Some materials such as zippers, fabrics and buttons are available at an additional cost. Maximum 10 people. First Monday of the month. 7-9 PM. Instructors: Mishka Navarre, Ricky German

Come watch costume flicks with us, complete with nail polish and snacks! $10.

Drawing the Figure

Learn the basics of this vital skill for fashion and costume designers, and visual artists.

Figure drawing is one of the most technical of art skills. It relies on the artists’ ability to depict form, volume, and proportion while portraying something that is as familiar yet complicated as the back of our hand.

$55 includes instructor and model fee. May contain nude figure drawing sessions. Materials: newsprint pad, drawing paper, stick charcoal, drawing
pencils. 2 hours a week for 3 week series. Instructor: Mishka Navarre TA: Ricky German

Create a Costume Rendering

Learn to render different types of fabrics on the body form.

One of the major tools of costume and fashion design is the ability to depict the clothed body.  Work with models clothed in a variety of period garments and a color medium of your choosing to create finished renderings.

$55 includes instructor and model fees. 2 hours a week for 3 week series. Materials: Bristol board tablet, pencils, watercolor and brushes or colored pencils.
Suggested prior class: Drawing the Figure.

The Elements of Design

Design in all of its forms from clothing to architecture utilizes a basic toolbox of elements including line, shape, color, texture and focus.

How do designers of all types use these tools to create functional, beautiful and evocative pieces? Come discover how the elements of design are all around you and how you can use them as you create.

$55. This is a part drawing and part research and development class. It focuses on developing and communicating design. Materials: Sketchbook for drawing, medium of your choice, magazines, glue stick, blank sketchbook for making collages.

Build A Circle Skirt.

Make a simple circle skirt with a waistband and a zipper during two 3 hour workshops.

Building a skirt teaches the basic sewing skills including pattern drafting, lining, machine operation, simple seams, gathering, hemming, hand finishing and application of closures, installing a zipper, and hemming.

Use our stock! Building workshops have two options: A) fabric and notions are provided to the the student from our stock. At the conclusion of the course, the finished product may be purchased for the cost of the materials. OR B) The student provides their own fabric and notions and keeps their finish product to enjoy in their wardrobe.

$75 includes instructor fees and some tools. Materials: Butcher Paper, four yards fashion fabric, spool of matching thread, half yard interfacing, zippers. Maximum 6 students. Instructors: Mishka Navarre, Ricky German

Costume History Series

Learn about the style lines, lifestyles, and fashion oddities of each time period from the ancient world to the mid 20th century.

Part of a costumer’s job is to be able to research and portray historical periods.  Each series is three weeks long with three, two-hour sessions:

1. Ancient cultures to Byzantium
2. Early medieval to Renaissance
3. Elizabethan to 1789
4. French Revolution through the reign of Victoria
5. Edwardian and 20th century until 1950

$50 per three week series or save $75 and Purchase all five classes in the series for $175. We advise that the courses be taken in order, as new information will build upon prior information, but it is not necessary to have studied earlier periods to learn something new about each period. Build Vests

You will learn to make and sew simple vests pants in two, three-hour workshops.

By creating a vest you will learn basic machine operation and how to sew basic seams to create a lined garment as well as button hole and button
techniques.

Use our stock! Building workshops have two options: A) fabric and notions are provided to the the student from our stock. At the conclusion of the course, the finished product may be purchased for the cost of the materials. OR B) The student provides their own fabric and notions and keeps their finish product to enjoy in their wardrobe.

 

$75 includes instructor fees and some tools. Materials: Butcher Paper, two yards fashion fabric, two yards lining fabric, spool of matching thread, one yard interfacing, six buttons. Maximum six students. Instructors: Mishka Navarre, Ricky German

Prom Dress Makeover

Take that not quite right bargain prom gown and make it your dream dress.

Cinderella not quite ready for the ball? Everything off the rack a bore? In this workshop, we will help you make-over a dress of your choosing. Purchase one of our dresses or remodel a hand me down or amazing thrift store find. Learn how to alter existing garments along with some fitting and sewing skills as you prepare for a glamorous evening.

$100 includes two hour sessions instructor and shop fees. Materials may vary. Students may work outside of class on their own or purchase additional mentored shop time at $8/ hour. Basic sewing skills recommended, but not absolutely necessary. Instructors: Mishka Navarre, Ricky German

Halloween Costume Workshop

In four, two-hour long classes, we develop your idea into a costume fit to win any costume contest.

Week 1: Plan. Solidify ideas with research and planning. Create shopping lists.

Week 2: Engineer. Work out kinks and use your plans to engineer all of the complexities of your costume.

Week 3: Fit and fabricate. Alter and fabricate the large aspects of ideas.

Week 4: Finish work. Put the finishing touches on your spectacular costume.

$100 includes instructor and shop fees. Workshop starts the first week of August. Materials will vary based on desire. Additional time may be purchased for $8/ hour. Basic sewing skills helpful but not necessary. Maximum of six students. Instructors: Mishka Navarre, Ricky German

Zombie Workshop

In this 3 hour workshop decide upon your manner of death, learn some blood and gore makeup skills, get hints on creating that perfect ragged wardrobe.

You aspire to be one of the walking dead but don’t have much beyond a limp armed stagger and moan to show for it.

$55 includes demonstration makeup and instructor. Individual makeup may be purchased on or off site. Materials: basic clothes. Instructors: Mishka Navarre, Ricky German
Drag Workshop

Ladies and gentlement and everyone in between! Whether you are a pro or new to the scene, this four week workshop will help you perfect the persona that people will flock to see.

Week 1: Foundations & Clothing – Explore gaffs, bras, hip padding, packers, and compression wear to get the perfect proportions for all of your costumes.

Week 2: Movement – Work the movement side of your persona, perfecting the ideal walk and and gestures to create a memorable performance.

Week 3: Make-up & Hair – Bring your own kit or purchase from our stock ($22) and explore how to create a signature face with basic makeup and wig styling techniques.

Week 4: Peer Review – Reveal your look to our assembled group of reviewers, including local performers and venue owners at a local pub.

$85 includes instructor fee and shop fees. This is not a clothing construction class. Materials: Your drag – clothes, shoes, foundations, makeup, and hair. 6 people limit. 21+ Instructor: Ricky German.
Tassels, Tear-Away & Twinkle

Come brush up on your basics and learn some skills to make your clothes function on stage with amazing break-away, pastie, and bedazzling techniques.

Burlesque beauties and beaus, we have a wonderful four week series for you:

Week 1: Plan – Refine that strip. Create shopping lists.

Week 2: Learn – Breakaway, pastie construction, and bedazzling techniques revealed!

Week 3: Engineer – Apply your new found knowledge to your idea.

Week 4: Finish Work – Make those seams unflappable for performance that has no more wardrobe malfunctions than you want to have!

$85 includes instructor and shop fees. 8 hours This is not a clothing construction class. The only thing we will, however, construct is pasties. Materials: Clothing to be rigged. Snap tape, zippers, snaps, heat and bond, jersey (an old t-shirt will do), flesh toned fabric, interfacing, rhinestones, E-6000. Instructor: Mishka Navarre
